A Canal People
£16.99

Contained here, and very well reproduced one to a page, are around 130 B&W photographs taken during the late 1940s & early 1950s, by a talented amateur photographer, Robert Longden. His subject was the narrow boat community at Hawkesbury Stop, near Coventry, where the Oxford and Coventry canals met, and near both collieries and a power station, so this was a busy spot. The photographs show families and boats loading, unloading and awaiting orders, rather than cruising along the waterways, and offer a unique and detailed look at a way of life which was to disappear in a very short time. 154 square format pages. Paperback. The History Press
