Really excellent book on the Deakin fairground dynasty, based at Brynmawr, South Wales. Whilst renowned in their area for their famous rides, catering and charity work, the family’s wider fame is because they were the last concern to order NEW showmans traction engines, 8nhp Burrell ‘Simplicity’ delivered in 1930, and Fowler B6s Class ‘Supreme’ delivered in 1934. Both these, and the firm’s other engines and transport, are very well covered here, as are the rides, living vans, personnel and the family history. Other than its high production values, what makes this book especially attractive are the anecdotes about the Deakins and life with them. 119 landscape format pages. 100s of illustrations, both B&W and colour. Hardbound. Published by the authors.
