Sub-titled “The late years of P. & A. Campbell Ltd Passenger Steamship Owners’ which is more indicative of the contents of this book than the main title as, after 52 pages of background, it focuses on the years from 1958 up to 1980 when Bristol Channel operations ceased. It thus covers the end of the paddle steamers, and ultimately of fleet operations, until only the Balmoral was still cruising. PS Waverley debuted in 1979, and kept some cruising going until 1986 when Balmoral returned to service - hence the title. Considerable detail of vessels, services, and of the battles P. & A. Campbell faced to keep services operating in the face of changing leisure habits. 184 well produced pages with numerous B&W photos, drawings and maps. Hardbound. Black Dwarf
