The 2 axle NG IC locomotives made by the Motor Rail and Tramcar Company first came to real note during World War 1, when they were used on the narrow gauge railways to the front line; arguably they were the first successful mass-produced IC locomotives, and the firm continued to develop and produce them until 1987 when the business was bought by Alan Keef Ltd.
