Not a huge success at the time, although I remembered it as very funny, but now a cult classic, this colourful film follows the exploits of sex-obsessed teenager Jamie, played by Barry Evans, as he attempts to loose his virginity and join the Swinging Sixties in late-1960s Stevenage New Town. This uncut version gives you a lot more of the unquestionable delights of Judy Geeson in particular than I remember, but the music from The Spencer Davis Group and Traffic has lasted well, and the film is still very funny. What is amazing watching this again after many years is just how it really does evoke the 1960s, and especially the optimism of that era, bringing home just how different a world it was - and certainly a more optimistic one. It also makes an interesting comparison with its exact contemporary Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, also to be found here. You don’t remember the 60s? Go on - remind yourself!
