Argentine Adventure. A Railwayman at the End of the World.
£13.95

Chris Parrott responded to an advertisement seeking seasonal drivers on a narrow gauge railway at the southern tip of Argentina, and has been returning to the Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino, or El ten del fin del Mundo, every winter since, this book detailing his experiences on the most southerly railway in the world. Students of ‘advanced steam’ will know of this 50 cm line, through the involvement of Dante Porta with its steam locomotives, and there is certainly quite a lot about the modifications to these here, albeit not a a highly technical level. Primarily this is a book about an interesting new railway in a fascinating and beautiful location, with an unusual operating pattern. It is also a lesson in how difficult simple things can become when you are in a distant outpost of civilisation. Interesting and recommended. 64 A4 format pages. Over 60 colour illustrations, plus maps. Softcover. Cheona Publications.
