Sur les rails de Normandie
£57.95

Latest, largest and, in my opinion, the best of this excellent series. One of the largest of France’s provinces, with a coastline extending from Le Treport-Mers westwards to Mont St. Michel, major ports, including Dieppe, le Havre and Cherbourg and one of France’s major cities - Rouen, Normandy was early in the railway era. It also had narrow gauge systems, notably the Calvados one, iron mines, transatlantic specials and ferryboat services, plus it was served by the Nord, Ouest and Etat railways. This book reviews the province’s railways line by line, with history and archive photographs, plus many recent shots.  Special sections cover Rouen in particular, Sotteville works, the gares maritimes, preserved lines, and tramways and funiculars, amongst other subjects. 287 large format pages, heaving with B&W and colour photographs, track diagrams and pure enjoyment. Hardbound. Les Editions du Cabri
