This book from Ian Tyler describes the numerous mines, the remains of which are to be found on the Caldbeck Fells, on the north eastern flank of the Lake District. Their history is complex, starting with the arrival of the German miners of the Society of Mines Royal in the area in 1568, and continuing through until mining final stopped in the mid 1960s. At 320 pages this is a bigger book than most of Ian’s, and is dedicated to his late wife Jean, a lovely lady who the Harris family were privileged to know. Despite OS references, as the book covers a large area a map showing the locations of the groups of workings would have been useful, but otherwise this is an excellent book, and a fascinating story. Well illustrated with B&W photos, diagrams and layouts. Hardback. Blue Rock Publications
