Back in print, here is the history of the Levant tin and copper mine seven miles from Penzance, one of whose beam engines has been restored to working order. Isolated, on a cliff edge, and with levels running way out under the sea, the Levant was an awkward mine to work (it even tried a real steam loco underground at one point), but survived in classic form some 110 years, despite a horrendous accident involving its ‘man engine’, which led to their abolition. A fascinating and highly readable book with a lot of technical and social information in it. 56 illustrations, some in colour. 103 page paperback. Great Value! The Trevithick Society
