Bashers, Gadgets and Mourners ~ The life and times of the LNWR Coal Tanks
£19.00

The LNWR Coal Tanks were hardly  great beauties, but they were effective and reliable, lasting from 1881 to 1959. This book, firstly tells the history of the class, and its development and service, and secondly tells the specific story of the only preserved example, No. 1054. There is a considerable amount of technical detail, in part based on the restoration of No. 1054 to operating condition, but there is also a lot of ‘oral history’ from people who worked on the class, or who drove them. Extremely good value for a very well produced 256 page hardbound book, it even has a CD of interviews as well as recordings of No. 1054. Full of drawings, maps and B&W photos. Bahamas Locomotive Fund, with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
