‘A Reference Handbook’, this could be read as such by those who know the convoluted story of Ireland’s narrow gauge railways, but it is also a very good introduction to the subject. Covering both Northern Ireland and the Republic, each railway is described in a short history, there is a map, photographs and, in most cases a Chronology, Route listing, and listings of locomotives and rolling stock. There is a huge amount of information, although the photos per line varies considerably and is adequate rather than generous. 160 page paperback.
