A somewhat odd Scot’s mix that starts with a 19 minute sequence of Sir Harry Lauder in action back in 1931 - even at 61 he was in fine voice, singing a number of his songs, including the title one, although the actually film is somewhat worn. He also sings 'Keep Right On to The End of the Road', always a moving experience as he composed it in memory of his only son who was killed during the First World War.

Other items include two very odd ‘shorts’ with the late great Ricki Fulton (and Kenneth McKellar of all people in one), 13 minutes of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir just before they disbanded. Then there is 'You Take the High Road' in which the fishing and farming villages of the East coast and the scenery of the West are used as the setting for traditional airs and tunes.

By far the best film is kept for last and is about the links between Cree people living near James Bay in Canada, and the Orkneys. The link is fiddle playing, and the film follows two Cree fiddlers on a journey to the Orkneys to perform in a series of concerts with local players. It is both fascinating and moving. Worth buying the DVD just for this!
