Welsh Highland Railway Renaissance
£68.00

The Story of the Restoration of the Welsh Highland Railway 1991-2011, this absolute doorstop of a book comes from Gordon Rushton who was involved with the rebuilding of the WHR from the word ‘go’. As he says 'I wasn't so much ringside, as one of the performing animals'.

As a project the WHR has not been without controversy and critics, there have been court cases, worried locals, and worried preservationists, notably on the Ffestiniog Railway. All of these points are covered in considerable depth, as  is the construction of the railway itself, in stages from Caernarfon through to Porthmadog. Also covered are the locomotives and rolling stock, mostly acquired from South African Railways through a lucky window of opportunity, not to mention track, trackworks, stations and everything else - this book can only be described as ‘super-detailed’.

448 A4 format pages. Close to 900 illustrations, largely in colour. Numerous excellent detail maps. Hardbound
