One of the most beautiful railway books ever written, this is Tom Rolt’s description of the first ever two years of railway preservation, when he served as General Manager of the Talyllyn Railway. Rolt’s choice of the word ‘Adventure’ in this book’s title is deliberate, as everyone involved was venturing into the unknown, and this superb read contains thrills, spills and much humour. And, if anything Rolt understated some things, notably the codition of boilers. If you don’t already have a copy of this book, you really should take this opportunity! 150 text pages plus 40 of B&W photographs. Paperback. The History Press
