Railways in Latvia
£47.95

This is the first book we have seen on Latvian Railways let alone one in English as this is. Latvia was  effectively part of Russia until 1918, under German control during World War 11 and, again, under Russian control until it gained its independence again in 1991. The history of the railways is inevitably complicated as a result, and is covered here line by line - actually station by station, up to the present. The result is that there are perhaps rather too many photographs of stations, only some of which have tantalising glimpses of locomotives and trains (on five gauges!) in them. This is a beautifully produced book of considerable interest, effectively published by the State Railway who I hope will get round to doing a companion on the locomotives and rolling stock. 198 large format pages. Around 350 photographs, some in colour. Harbound. Latvijas dzelzcels
