Return from Dunkirk - Railways to the Rescue
£13.95

Much has been written about the Miracle of Dunkirk in May & June 1940, when the remains of the BEF were rescued from the beaches of Dunkirk by a motley and speedily assembled flotilla of ships. What has been little written about is the huge railway operation to transport the thousands of rescued, and sometimes injured personnel, from their landing points in the South East of England, to holding points, often a considerable distance away. Peter Tatlow here tells the story of a jaw-dropping piece of rapid organisation, largely by the Southern Railway, in considerable detail here. Seventy years on, this is well worth reading if you are interested in railway, or military history. 184 page well illustrated paperback, with maps (one fold-out) and charts. The Oakwood Press
