We British always claim that Britain has never been successfully invaded since 1066, but for one part of the British Isles - The Channel Islands, this is not true, as they were occupied by the Germans from 1940 to 1945. Molly Finigan was all but nine years of age when Guernsey was occupied and here gives a revealing account of what it was like to become a teenager during those troubled times - in particular this is a tribute to the strengths of her fellow Islanders, and especially her mother, who had the worry and frustrations of bringing up children during the Occupation. It is a heartfelt story, if told with rather too many exclamation marks, of a unique period in the history of the British Isles. 96 page illustrated paperback. Amberley Publishing
