The Great Southern was created in 1925 to run all the railways, both broad and narrow gauge, located wholly within the Irish Free State, a function it fulfilled for twenty difficult years, until 1945 when it became part of CIÉ. This delightful book is, effectively, a pictorial history of the railways of Eire during this period and certainly makes the point that, despite the grim economic conditions, the company managed to be innovative, as well as provide reliable services. 96 pages. Around 200 high quality B & W illustrations. Paperback. Midland Publishing
