If you are Scots, you will know who The Broon’s (anglice - The Browns) are. If you aren’t it should be explained that they have featured in a weekly cartoon in Scotland’s national Sunday paper The Sunday Post, since time immemorial (well - 1936), and are supposedly, a typical Scottish urban family. They comprise Granpaw, Paw, Maw, 4 ‘adult’ children (2 sons and 2 daughters), Horace (the brainy one), the (male) twins and the (female) Bairn. Of the 11, only Maw, Horace and the Bairn plus sometimes Granpaw, have much sense.
Recently the whole family has shown signs of escaping the confines of The Sunday Post, and their Annuals, some of the results being this selection.
