Both the films here are about life on the magical and remote island of St. Kilda. The first concentrates on human life, and includes fascinating B&W footage shot in 1908 and the 1920s, which gives an idea of what life was like for the inhabitants, and the final stages of their 1930 evacuation. Colour film then shows the islands’ takeover by the National Trust for Scotland, the arrival of the Army, and what happened on St. Kilda up till 1980. Filmed over 25 years from 1957, the second film shows the extraordinary amount of wildlife, mainly seabird, but also sheep, rabbits and mice, to who St. Kilda is now home. Enjoyable viewing!
