Assembled from a number of local railways, the M&GNJR curved north and west round the top of Norfolk, from Lowestoft to King’s Lynn and Peterborough, with a northern spur to Spalding and on towards Leicester. The Midland largely dealt with locomotive matters, and the Great Northern with infrastructure, the rolling stock being shared. As a secondary main line, much of it single tracked, with interesting stations, the M&GNJR is a really interesting subject for an Edwardian period layout, helped by a wonderful assortment of locomotives, by no means all of which were Midland clones. This is a wonderful book, telling the story of the line, rolling stock, and especially its locomotives. 192 pages, brim full of archive B&W photos, maps, decent drawings and a good text. Hardbound.
