The Shropshire & Montgomeryshire Railway had a quite extraordinary and convoluted history, but this books is concerned solely with its last twenty years of life, when it was leased by the War Department, and run by the ROD, to serve numerous ammunition dumps in the Welsh Marches, to the west of Shrewsbury. The amount of detail, both in text, maps and photographs, here is exceptional and given the underlying quirkiness of the S&M, makes for a fascinating book for anyone interested in unusual railway operations. And if you want to model something different for your next layout, this is quite superb! 192 pages. 200 plus B&W photos. Hardbound. Lightmoor Press
