This rather nice book looks at the three major railroads of the Central Mother Lode Region of California, namely the standard gauge, common carrier Sierra Railway, the standard gauge lines of the Pickering Lumber Company and the mainly 3-foot gauge lines of the famed West Side Lumber Company - all three concerns connecting at Tuolumne. There are large numbers of B&W archive photos including Richard Steinheimer’s wonderful night photos on the West Side Lumber, and recollections, along with more general historical information here.  As the Sierra was the railroad of choice for Hollywood and West Side Lumber was the very last of the three foot gauge loggers, there is a lot of interest here. 240 well produced pages. Hardbound. Eureka Publishing
