Trams Without Wires ~ the APS system in Bordeaux · 50 mins · DVD

£18.25

The tramway revival in France has been rapid, and has involved innovative solutions to various problems, notably that of overhead wires in areas of architectural merit. In Bordeaux the solution is to use the APS (alimentation par sol) system in such areas; this is akin to a conduit system, with the twin feed rails just proud of the road surface - these are energised in short sections by the cars themselves, the system proving very reliable. This good film shows the APS fitted parts of Bordeaux’s routes, and how they are operated, as well as the outer parts where conventional overhead is fitted, and the five and seven section Citadis cars run with their pantographs raised.
