Portraits of the Iron Horse


'The American Locomotive in Pictures and Story', first published in 1937, this edition published in 1976. The original edition was apparently 'the first book designed exclusively for raril fans'.

The book was written by Robert S.Henry, a then vice president of the Association of American Railroads. The 36 B&W main illustrations are all drawings by the famed American industrial designer Otto Kuhler, the man responsible for the Milwaukee Road's streamlined 'Hiawathas' amongst many more distinctive locomotives of the 1930s in particular. These drawings cover steam locomotives from the 'Best Friend of Charleston' up to the mid 1930s.

79 page paperback which also has three pages of drawings covering some basic technicalities of the steam locomotive.

CONDITION: slight marking on the front cover, otherwise very good.
