The Big Wheels Old Steam Traction Days
Publisher: Cape Catley
Publication Date: 1991
Book Condition: Very Good
Ken Fairweather's earliest childhood memories and early working life were associated with the big steam engines. He experienced the great changes in the engineering industry occasioned by two world wars, and the changes in the farming industry that saw the demise of the steam engine in favour of reticulated electricity and the labour-saving internal combustion engine. Of these earlier and sterner days, however, it has been truly said that even the hard times were good times. The author has lived in Marlborough for the greater part of his life, and his experiences could be paralleled in any of the grain-growing districts of New Zealand.
