The Portage Railway (due in late September)
For fifty-four years the narrow gauge Huntsville & Lake of Bays Railway in Ontario’s north Muskoka lakes region served as a vital link between two steamboat routes carrying tourists, supplies, timber and associated products.
At one and a half miles long, it claimed to be ‘The Smallest Commercially Operated Railway in the World’. And when its two original 44.5” gauge locos wore out, rather than have the tires of its new 42” gauge engine moved out, it narrowed the gauge of the whole railway!
An extraordinary line, an extraordinary story and an extraordinary book! In any model scale up to 16mm narrow gauge, it would be quite possible to model this railway in its entirety - is this the ideal model prototype? 184 very heavily illustrated text pages, and 20 fold-out pages of drawings of the locomotives, rolling stock, buildings etc..
Hardbound and landscape format.
