Wings of the Luftwaffe

Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown CBE DSC AFC RN, who died in 2016, flew 490 different types of aircraft during his long life, more than anyone else ever has, or probably will.

A fluent German speaker, during WW11 he was part of a group founded to investigate crashed or captured German aircraft, and at the war’s end his role was extended to recovering complete aircraft, sometimes flying them back to the UK.

In the end Brown flew 33 Luftwaffe aircraft designs, and it is these aircraft, their construction, handling and use which he covers here, frequently in detail, although this does depend on the extent of his experiences with each aircraft.

Fascinating reading with numerous B&W photos, colour elevations and numerous cut-away drawings. 271 well produced pages. Hardbound.
