Vintage Cubano

During the 12 years to 2005 Adolf Hungrywolf spent a total of 18 months in Cuba, documenting the island’s ‘transportation time warp’.

He recorded hundreds of steam locomotives, standard and, especially, narrow gauge, most of considerable antiquity, all at work on the railways attached to the then numerous sugar mills. He also photographed many of the vintage, and mainly American cars to be found still in use. The cars may still be there, but most of the locomotives have gone, or are now definitely out of use, so this 320 page, all colour book, shows scenes of them, and the Cuban people, before life started to change dramatically. One of the strengths of this book is that there are many railway and life related comments and stories from ordinary Cubans, and not just the 'official line'. Whilst definitely rairoad (and car) orientated, there is a lot of folk history here as well.

Fabulous book from the expert on Cuba's railways. Around 600 photos both colour &?B&W. Hardbound.
