The Broad Gauge Engines of the Great Western Railway Part 3: 1846-1852

£30.00

The broad gauge may have had the best part of forty years life remaining when the period covered by this book ends, but the locomotives used on it had reached their maturity by 1952

In fact the magnificent "Iron Duke" class, the first of which appeared in 1848 were to be the epitomy of broad gauge steam express power until the end of the broad gauge, even if much improved over their lifetime.

As well as the locomotive stock, Gooch's building of Swindown works is covered in considerable detail.

Very interesting, as are the earlier two volumes in the series; erudite and highly readable.

208 pages. Numerous B&W photographs, drawings - illustrative and technical, maps etc.. Hardbound.
