Somerset and Dorset Swansong

Books on the Somereset and Dorset are almost 'two a penny', but this distinctly different book on this lovely line passed me by when it was published some years ago.

The S&D finally closed on the 7th March 1966, steam worked to the end, despite the fearsome gradients as it conquered the Mendips at its northern end (and passed just a few miles frim our office).

Covered here is the line's four final years, after through traffic was transferred away, and especially the last few months, and the numerous Special Trains on the line, including those after the official last day. There is a good text, including many reminiscences, but the joy of this title is the 100 or so photographs, many full page. The majority are B&W and very good, although some of the colour photographs have started to suffer somewhat from their age. A real joy from 50 years ago! 96 page large format paperback.
